Back in the early days of the original “PlayStation,” the most recognizable figure and console mascot was “Crash Bandicoot.” With his signature body spin and bipedal fox body, few owners of the “PS” and “PS1” did not know this character made by “Naughty Dog.” Unfortunately, “Crash” has dropped from the limelight following less-than-stellar games following the original three. To remind fans that “Sony” has not forgotten their original answer to “Mario,” “Crash Bandicoot” will be getting a remaster that will come to the “PS4.”
During their E3 presentation, “Sony” revealed that the first three games of the lovable short-wearing canine character will be getting the full HD treatment, much like “Skylander” did. Speaking of which, “Crash” will also be appearing in the “Skylanders Imaginators.”
Forbes notes that this will make “Crash” a playable character and as is the case with all “Skylander” playable characters, he will also get his own action figure. In the game itself, the “PS1” mascot will exhibit chi powers, which should be a call back to his original abilities.
To make his appearance on the game even more authentic, the original voice actor of “Crash” Jess Harnell will be doing his dialogue once again. Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg also mentioned that the timing for “Crash’s” return is in tandem with the character 20th anniversary.
“For years, we’ve been asked when is Crash returning, and today that question has been answered. Activision is proud to celebrate the iconic character’s 20-year anniversary by bringing him back in ways that will appeal to hardcore fans as well as introduce him to a new generation of gamers,” he said.
As Venture Beat points out, the last official “Crash Bandicoot” game was the “Nitro Kart 2,” which doesn’t exactly fill the void left by the classic game. Since the new release will be re-masters of the game instead of a new title, fans will need to wait even longer.
